Thanks to the magic of vendor shipping errors meeting an employee discount, I solved the pressing problem of finding a place on the rack for the following wine by buying it for my home stash:
Producer (Vineyard): Ravenswood
Varietal (Grape type): Cabernet Sauvignon
Vintage (Year): 2005
Country: USA (California)
Color: Red
Cost: Moderate ($15 USD)

Swirl and Sniff: The color is inky black. Scents: Alcohol, more alcohol, a whiff of vanilla, and cherries.
Taste: Plums, blackberries, cherries, oak, and blueberries.
Pairing: I drank this with burgers on the grill with onion rings. In that I ate those things in-between sips of wine. I did save out some grilled burger meat to test with the wine, and they seemed to pair fairly well, but steaks would be more apropos.
Rating: When it comes to this wine, I would (and you may):
- Buy three or more bottles for regular enjoyment
- Buy a bottle or two for occasional enjoyment
- Ask for when dining out or at a party
- Settle for if your preferred wine is not available
- Politely decline and never drink again, ever
This is a big boomy cab that will. not. be. ignored. After a spate of wimpy, nondescript wines (relatively speaking) lately, it was nice to have a nice blast of liquid Howitzer. If only I could uncork a Petite Sirah like that sometime. No alcohol mallet, despite the fairly high alcohol content.
If you do give this a try, please let me know how your experience compared with mine. Thanks! <EM>
